Wyoming's beauty and wide open spaces

The Snowy Range in southern Wyoming is a place that I have wanted to go back to for years.

The climate is so severe that the trees do all their growing on the leeward side.

Some of the roads were still closed by snow that hadn't melted in the middle of July.

The wide open spaces are alive and well in Wyoming!

Monday's ride

So Monday was the first day when I traveled and didn't end up back at home. I finished in Estes Park, Colorado. What a day! I started out by riding through Garden of the Gods park.
I then had a beautiful ride north of Woodland Park. Things were so green and peaceful.

Lake Granby and the town of Grand Lake are places I'd like to go back to.

I put the above photo in for Sue's Humphrey...he gets around!
Next came the ride into Rocky Mountain National Park. The first part was road construction including about 12 miles of gravel. I saw a mama and baby moose! Then came the wonderful ride up Trail Ridge road.

It was amazing, and caused me to sing How Great Thou Art inside my motorcycle helmet!

Out and back

I started my trip at about noon on Sunday. My friend Theresa wanted to ride a couple of hours and then turn back, so we started off to the west. The plan was to go north of Woodland Park, but the sky was so black that way that we ended up in Divide to grab some lunch. During lunch I realized that I had forgotten my cell phone and charger, so decided to come back home and call this day a dry run. I didn't feel bad about it since the main thing was that I finished loading my bike with the camping gear, which was a first, anyway...so I hope to be in or near to Rocky Mountain National Park on Monday!

Girls gone; loading bike

My girls are gone, dog's at our friend's house, now I am packing. Should be able to fit everyting on my bike. Planning on being somewhere near Rocky Mountain National Park tonight...we'll see.

Checking things...

Well, I've finished work, and won't be back for two weeks, so now I will bring Dorothy and Susie to the airport, load my bike, and I'm off on my adventure. I found my tent and sleeping bag, and will check to make sure if all the parts to my tent are there. I haven't used it for years, so, here's hoping!

Getting closer...

It's Wednesday, and Dorothy is packing for her and Susie's trip to England, which means my trip is also drawing close. It looks like I will be heading north beginning on Sunday. We are all getting excited. Several people at work have wished me well and said, "Be Safe!" John Steinbeck, in his book, Travels with Charlie, said that after all the plans are made, and the trip has begun, it takes on its own personality, and the plans fall by the wayside. The sooner we realize this, the trip, like life, can be enjoyed.
